Insurgency: Oba of Benin charges Air Force on surveillance

The Benin monarch, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Ukuakpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has charged the Nigeria Air force on air surveillance and intelligence to tackle insurgency and other criminal activities in the country.

Omo N’Oba stressed that detailed surveillance and intelligence gathering were key in fighting insurgency currently ravaging the country.

The royal father gave the charge when he played host to the new commander of 107 Air Maritime Group, Benin, Commander Emmanuel Sobande, in his palace in Benin City.

The monarch also told the Nigeria Air Force to work out a detailed blueprint that would combat insurgency, Niger Delta militants, herdsmen invasion and other social crimes.

Oba Ewuare II, who expressed sadness over the incessant herdsmen killings in the country including the recent attack which claimed lives in part of Edo State, disclosed that the palace authority has concluded plans to convey another stakeholders meetings with a view to curb menace of the killer herdsmen in the state.

While assuring the visitor of royal support, his royal majesty noted that the palace was fully determined to restore full sanity to Benin kingdom.

Earlier, the new commander, Air Commodore Shobande, told the monarch that he was at the palace to seek royal advice and blessings.

The air chief, who was also overwhelmed with the track record of Oba Ewuare II, hinted that Nigeria Air Force was working round the clock to combat the various crimes including insurgency in Nigeria.
