Institute to develop skilled industrial hands-on

The Pan African material Institute, PAMI, of the African University of Science and Technology, AUST, Abuja, has declared its commitment to the development of skilled industrial hands-on, with related experience that will encourage self-reliance and industrial growth in the African continent.

The Chairman, Scientific advisory Board of the Institute, Dr. Shola Odusonya, who made the declaration in Abuja during the PAMI partners meeting, said the institute’s Material Science Education will help improve the living standards of people of West and Central Africa region. He further noted that PAMI material function especially on water purification and minerals processing will stimulate development of natural resources and activities the health sector.

Odusoya further maintained that the institute is primarily focusing its attention on tackling African Problems and diseases rather than being distracted by hypothetical themes.

Also speaking, a member of the Scientific Advisory board, Dr. Omololu Akin-Ojo, said the institute which is a member of the African centers of Excellence Project of the World Bank, has so far received as so far 2m dollars while it has spent 1.6m dollars, he also indicated that the school has so far trained 30 PHD students and that more applications are required for Master Degree students.

Omololu further maintained that the institute is focusing on the health sector especially on the development of drugs to help against Cancer detection and cure.
