Insecurity: My constituents can’t go to farm, Bauchi lawmaker raises alarm

A member representing Burra Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko Burra has raised the alarm that constant attacks by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers has inflicted serious fear in his people, thereby, preventing them from going to farm.
Honourable Ibrahim Tanko Burra was speaking at a the floor of the house during Wednesday plenary under matters of urgent public importance to draw the attention of his colleagues to ugly scenario.
As contained in summary of Wednesday plenary made available to newsmen by the spokesperson of the Speaker yesterday , Comrade Abdul Ahmad Burra, the Lawmaker explained that security situation in Ningi Local Government Area is deteriorating, as stories of cases of kidnappings and killings are heard virtually on daily basis in one part of the Local Government or the other.
“More worrisome Mr Speaker, is how the suspected bandits, apart from kidnapping, now resorted to launching attacks on innocent people, thereby killing some, injuring others while properties are looted”, the Summary of the plenary reported the Lawmaker as saying.
“Just last Tuesday, 25th of July, 2023, at about 9:00pm, unknown gunmen attacked Kada Village of Kurmi Ward of my Constituency in which they shot dead 6 people, which include, the ward head of Kada Mai Anguwa Ali aged 50, Alh Ibrahim, Shuaibu Adamu 45 years, Yunusa Adamu 50 years, Umaru Sabo 25 years and Ali Ado”, it further noted.
The Lawmaker pointed out that during the attack, shops were also burgled in the affected Community in which the attackers carted away with foodstuffs and two motorcycles.
He said that the gunmen on their escaping way, ambushed a security outfit in which a dedicated member of a vigilante group who have been contributing immensely in securing the communities, Aminu Aminai was killed.
“On the same day, another gang of suspected kidnappers attacked Yadagungume Town of Sama Ward, in which they kidnapped family members of a renown business man, Alhaji Lawan Maliya Sarkin Ma’adanan Ningi”, he reported.
The Lawmaker further said there are similar stories almost every day from Kafin Lemo, Gamji, Bashe, Musussuka, Agwarmaji, Balma, Jimi, Tabla and other parts of Ningi Local Government.
According to him, people in his Constituency and Ningi Central Constituency are living in fear and panic, and are afraid to go to their farms due to the activities of the gunmen.
“Businesses are being shut down in many villages and traditional rulers and wealthy individuals no longer live in their villages because they are the major targets of the criminals; most of them either moved from their villages to Burra and Ningi towns or other part of the Country for safety”, he said.
Hon. Ibrahim Tanko however commended the Bauchi State Government, security agencies and spirited citizens of the area for their contributions in tackling the problem.

He therefore requested the Honourable House to call on the State Government to collaborate with the security agencies and intensify efforts by coming up with new strategies toward ending the impending insecurity in Ningi Local Government.
He also urged the state assembly to prevail on the state government to provide relief materials to the deceased family and victims of the attack in Kada Villages and other parts of Ningi Local Government Area.
Responding on the matter raised, the Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Honourable Abubakar Sulaiman described insecurity in Ningi Local Government as very disturbing.
He however, expressed satisfaction on the efforts being made by the Government and security agencies to end the problem.
The House unanimously adopted the motion moved by Hon. Ibrahim Tanko Burra after the Speaker put it to voice vote.
