INEC receives kudos over election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has been largely commended over the March 9th Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly in Abia.

The commendation came from across the state.

Speaking with newsmen after casting his vote alongside his wife, Nkechi at his unit, at Alaukwu Ohanze ward 7 at 9.45 am, the Abia state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Ikpeazu noted that the election was progressing smoothly in his unit, while the turn out of people at the unit was higher than in the presidential and national assembly election.

According to him, “today’s election was better organized than the last one” and he expressed his joy over the general improvement noticed.

The Governor who observed that people were prepared to vote was optimistic of victory, noted that his party, the PDP won 75% of the votes during the last elections.

Also speaking, Dr. Uche Samson Ogah, the governortorial candidate od APC and who voted at his Onuaku Uturu polling unit expressed his belief that he would emerge as the winner of the contest.

He expressed his satisfaction at the massive turn out of voters at the polling unit, pointing out that the people are curious to have a change of guard in the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Aham Uko described the exercise at Nkwoegwu Primary School units as peaceful, expressing his delight with the performance of INEC during the election.

He described INEC card readers’ performance as excellent adding “if it continues this way, I don’t think people will have any grouse with INEC”.

He urged the electoral umpire to improve on the electoral voting system so that people can vote at their homes.

At Umuwaya Mbara, Amuzukwu Ibeku, after casting his votes, the Ibeku Traditional Prime Minister ans CEO of BAWAS group of companies, High Chief Uche James Akwukwuegbu expressed his happiness that the election was an improvement over the last one.

He commended President Buhari over his assurance of free and fair elections, while advising INEC to improve on the use of card readers.

At Umuobasi Ugba civic center, the state Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief Charles Ogbonna congratulated INEC for being able to keep to their assurance of early arrival of materials, even as he commended them over successful card readers performance.

At Ndagbo Afaraukwu unit, a former House of Representatives member who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia at the green chamber, Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka described INEC as having done well and has done its job.

In all, results across the state indicated that materials left INEC in time, as distribution started by as early as 4 am, while as early as 8.30pm, accreditation and voting have started in many polling units.

Issues of violence was skeletal, while security was at its best.

As early as 2.30 pm, results have started coming into INEC collation room.
