INEC fixes August 18, for Takum 1 Constituency By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled August 18, for the conduct of a by-election for Takum 1, State Constituency Seat of the Taraba State House of Assembly.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Alhaji Baba Abba Yusuf, made the disclosure during a meeting with leaders of various Political Parties at the Commission’s Headquarters, Jalingo.
The State Electoral Commissioner explained that the leadership of the State House of Assembly has officially communicated INEC, declaring the Seat vacant.
“I am happy to bring to your notice that the leadership of the State House of Assembly has communicated the Commission and declared the Seat vacant”,
“The Commission is therefore mandated by law to conduct a Bye-Election to fill the Vacancy within 30 days”, he said.
Yusuf said the by-election is long overdue considering the date of the demise of the late Member, Mr. Hosea Ibi, who according to him died six months ago.
He further explained that INEC has been expecting a letter from the State Assembly which he pointed out came finally came.
“Now that the Commission has been communicated officially, I have no other option than to call for this meeting to brief you on the issue”, said the State REC.
He disclosed that the Election was to replace late Hosea Ibi who was abducted by kidnappers in his home town, Takum on 31st December, 2017 and was killed in January, 2018.
While calling on the leadership of various political parties in the State to cooperate with the Commission towards ensuring a successful election, Yusuf also advised the people of Takum 1 Constituency to maintain peace and orderliness.
