Industrial action effective in kebbi

As the nationwide strike declared by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) enters day two, full compliance was seen in Kebbi state particularly the state capital, where schools and entire ministries were shut down in compliance with the labour directive.

In a chat with journalists the state chairman of the Union, Comrade Umar Halidu said the strike is in the best interest of workers who are living below poverty line due to poor remuneration that has affected their purchasing power therefore slowing down businesses.

The unionists added that without workers there can never be progress and development in the country as civil servants contribute nine percent to government business and are part and parcel of effective policy making.

He maintained that the anti corruption crusade will go nowhere with poor salaries that are consumed by inflation and lack of basic necessities of life, government lukewarm attitudes to workers forced them harbour bad intentions towards corruption to survive.

He called on Kebbi workers to exercise patience as the entire action is because of them, adding “we will keep you posted as events unfold”.
