India cancels visas for travellers from Germany, France, Spain

India has cancelled all visas granted to nationals from Germany, France and Spain issued on and before Thursday and asked Indian citizens to avoid travelling to these countries affected by the new coronavirus cases in Europe.

The new advisory comes as the number of cases showing positive for the virus inched up to 50 in India.

The visas of all foreign nationals who have travelled to these three countries on February 1 or after and not yet entered India are also cancelled, the Health Ministry advisory said.

An updated travel advisory called for passengers with a recent travel history to China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Thailand, Singapore, Iran, Malaysia, France, Spain and Germany to undergo self-imposed quarantine for a period of 14 days from the date of their arrival.

The government has requested all employers to allow these people to work from home.

India has already asked travellers to avoid the countries worst hit by the virus – China, South Korea, Italy and Iran. (dpa)
