Imposition of traditional ruler: Ugwuanyi preaches tolerance

The Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has described the existence of peace as a necessary precondition for development in every society.

Governor Ugwuanyi spoke while addressing the people of Igga community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area who were in Government House, Enugu, on a peace march in support of their traditional ruler, Igwe Herbert Nwanosike Ukuta, on Monday.

Emphasizing the importance of the virtues of tolerance and dialogue, he explained that the emergence of the traditional ruler was consistent with the tenets of justice, adding that the choice was a
reflection of the people’s wishes.

Earlier in an address, the President General of the town union, Mr. Raphael Amuche, extolled Governor Ugwuanyi’s democratic disposition as evident in his decision to grant audience to both parties to ensure
that all voices were heard.

Amuche accused those he termed mischief-makers in the community, noting that their attempt to cause disaffection and discredit their traditional ruler had failed because of the broad support he enjoys.

“We are comfortable with him,” he said, drawing applause from the delegation. He also thanked the governor for his seal of approval and appealed for continued support for him.

Members of the huge delegation bore placards with messages such as “Igga Town Union Stands with You”, and “We Are for You”.
