Ihedioha congratulates Lawan, Gbajabiamila, deputies

Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo state has congratulated the leadership of the 9th National Assembly on the emergence of Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.

He also congratulated their deputies, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Idris Wase respectively.

The governor while tasking the new leadership to endeavour to strengthen democracy in the country, also expressed worry at the situation of the six top political offices not having a representative from the South East geo-political zone.

“I congratulate the President of Senate, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and their deputies on their emergence. I urge them to ensure the strengthening of democracy in our country,” Gov. Ihedioha stated.

While commending their transparent emergence, he said that “obviously, people voted their minds and they got overwhelming majority of votes. We expect them to work in consonance with the mandates they have been given.

“We expect them to ensure that the six geo-political zones in this country are given their rights of place and to run one House devoid of partisanship and division, and then strengthen the unity of our nation which today requires all of us to put hands on deck.

“So, we support and encourage the leadership of the National Assembly to succeed. And interestingly I am a product of that Assembly and of a due process like this. So, I will give my loyalty and support to the leadership of the National Assembly,” he added.
