IGR: Unveiling Of SRSP Suffers Set Back With The Absence Of Plateau State Government

The Unveiling of new Smart Revenue System Process (SRSP), specially designed to ease the mobilization of taxes and optimized information management and accountability of all sources and receipt of internally generated revenue by the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), has suffered a set back due to the absence of Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong and other top government officials.
The Governor who was suppose to grace the occasion was reportedly in Shandam, his home town, with other top government officials who were also suppose to be at the occasion.
The event scheduled to bring key stakeholders last week Thursday was postponed to a later date when the Governor will be disposed to attend.
According to the Chairman of the Stakeholders session, the Vice Chancellor University of Jos, Professor Sebastian Maimako, said that “the event was rescheduled due to the absence of the governor, who got an impromptu invitation to attend a meeting which took him out of the state”.
However, pundits held the view that the unveiling of the new Smart Revenue System Process, supersedes any other engagement the Governor might have, since it has to do with the state finance which forms the basis of the state budget.
Responding, the Chairman said, “it is not that the stakeholders session is not important to the governor, particularly when the revenue generation in the state forms the basis of the state 2017 budget.
“His excellency traveled with most of the State functionaries to Shandam, that is why there is nobody to stand in for him.
“Don’t go with the impression that the program failed, it did not, when next we invite you, there will be a huge difference”, Maimako said.
Giving the importance of the initiative, as stipulated in a statement signed by Wulashik Lucius Dafan, Director of Corporate affairs (PSIRS) and Haroun Audu Marketing Communication Consultant, it said the new initiative will equally serve as PSIRS core application for tracking the revenue cycle of the state.
The duo pointed out that the system comes with features that allow for ease of payment of tax, seamless procedure for tax registration, generation of tax identification number TIN and payment of all types of statutory changes, fees and sundry bills.
According to them the smart revenue system process will ensure broad basing of taxes, equitable taxation, predictability of revenues, transparency and efficiency in reporting, monitoring, reconciliation and accounting of revenues across all the tiers, ministries, department and agencies of Plateau state government.
