I have reported Benue killings to President Buhari -Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom said he had adequately briefed President Muhammadu Buhari about the dastardly activities of herdsmen in the state. He stated this while addressing stakeholders in Makurdi, the Benue state capital over the latest security development in the state.

Governor Ortom, who yesterday summoned a stakeholders’ meeting comprising security chiefs, political leaders, farmers, youths, traditional rulers and the clergy in Makurdi, said he informed the president that herdsmen had been wantonly killing innocent Benue citizens and destroying their property.

He further assured them that in no distant time there would be light at the end of the tunnel.

He also admonished the youths not to take laws into their own hands, stressing that they should rather report any breach of peace to the law enforcement agencies for necessary action.

He further said that the federal government had promised to release Paris Club Fund to the states, promising that as soon as the money would hit the state’s account he would make it known to the public.

Speaking on behalf the traditional institutions in the state, Chairman, Benue State Traditional Council and Tor Tiv the 5th, Orcivirigh Prof James Ayatse appealed to the people of the state to remain law abiding by heeding the advice of the governor by not taking the law into their hands but tow the part of peace.

The Tor Tiv, while calling on the state House of Assembly to hasten up the passage of the grazing bill, charged them to ensure that outsiders do not take over the peoples’ land.
