HP boss claims many Nigerians lack awareness of ICT potentials
Mrs. Ify Afe, managing director of Hewlett Packard (HP) Nigeria, has said the economic potentials of ICT are hugely untapped because many Nigerians still lack the basic education and awareness of what the information and communications technology (ICT) can do them.
Afe asserted that education and awareness creation will expose Nigerians to tap from such potential, stressing that for it to succeed government, who she described as the biggest consumer of any product or service need to partner with the private sector, so that those citizens can be exposed to the opportunities that exist in the Information Technology (IT) in order to make a difference.
According to her, Nigeria has a huge population, as well as huge challenges which can be partly addressed using ICT tools.
“Nigerians are aware that they have challenges, but are not aware of the technology solutions that are already on the ground that they can use to address their challenges. The Nigerian government needs to work on creating the right opportunities for people to understand how to use technology to address their challenges in their daily lives,” she said.
She revealed that HP is very much aware that there are lots of untapped opportunities in the technology space and that it’s particularly concerned about developing the right education and creating the right technology awareness among the Nigerian people.
She highlighted that for this reason, HP has partnered with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on a program called the HP Life + UNNIDO partnership, designed to capture Nigerian youths that do not know how to use the right technology solutions to address their challenges.
