It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to a legendary figure in the Nigerian film industry, John Okafor, fondly known as Mr. Ibu. For over 25 years, I have had the privilege of witnessing his remarkable journey from his humble beginning to becoming an iconic actor. Mr. Ibu epitomised the essence of a seasoned veteran, displaying unwavering dedication to his craft. His unparalleled sense of humor and approach to industry-related matters set him apart, endearing him to all who crossed his path. Beyond his professional pursuits, he exuded warmth and compassion, readily extending assistance to those in need.
As an actor, he poured his heart and soul into every role, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. His contributions were invaluable, and his presence will be sorely missed. The loss of Mr. Ibu has left a profound void in Nollywood and Nigeria as a whole, a void that cannot be easily filled. Though his time with us was cut short, his legacy will continue to resonate with all who cherished his work and the joy he brought to countless lives. This is in my opinion a sad reminder that tomorrow is not assured for any of us rather we should do our best today.
