How Jennifer Lopez's Green Versace Dress Led to the Creation of Google Image Search

That green Versace dress, worn by Jennifer Lopez to the 2000 Grammy awards will go down in history as one of the most iconic looks of all time. But it’s significance is far more wide-reaching as has been revealed by Google chairman, Eric Schmidt, who explained the effect it had on the internet search engine:
“People wanted more than just text. This first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, where Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, caught the world’s attention. At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: JLo wearing that dress. That was how Google Image Search was born.”
Lopez caused a stir back in 2000 when she attended the Grammy awards alongside then partner, Puff Daddy in the green sheer printed dress with a belly button baring neckline designed by Versace. There’s been many red carpet appearances for JLo since that dress first made its appearance but a decade and a half later, there’s no sign of it fading from people’s memories.
