Hostcom Backs Kokodiagbene Community to demand electricity from Chevron in Delta

The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil & Gas (HOST-COM), Ijaw Ethnic Nationality, is in support of the people of Kokodiagbene community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, in their demand for electricity from Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL).

The people of the oil rich Kokodiagbene community recently staged a peaceful protest to the Chevron run Otunana flow station demanding for electricity supply to the community and capped their protest with a 14-day ultimatum to the company.

At the weekend, the community raised the alarm over alleged plan by the American oil giant to clamp down on its leaders over their recent demand for electricity supply from the company and implored the State Government to call the company to order.

The Ijaw HOSTCOM, on Tuesday, threw it’s weight behind the Kokodiagbene community and urged Chevron Nigeria Limited to do the needful by providing its host with electricity. Speaking in Warri, Delta State, the Chairman of HOSTCOM), Ijaw Ethinic Nationality, Delta State, Comrade Kingsley Ikiere, said the demand of the kokodiagbene community was not out of place. “We have been monitoring the development between the Kokodiagbene community and Chevron Nigeria Limited over the demand for electricity supply.

The people of the Community are not asking for too much frm the company that is getting so much from the area and this is why we are backing the peace loving people of Kokodiagbene community in demanding that they should be provided with electricity supply by Chevron”, he said Comrade Ikiere also said: “We want to call on the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to kindly do the needful by providing the KOkodiagbene community with electricity.

These peace loving people should not be allowed to suffer unnecessarily in the midst of plenty. We know Chevron to be a responsible corporate organization and so the community should in a responsible manner address the plight of the people. The HOSTCOM boss while commending the Delta State Government for stepping into the matter said,” we understand that the State Government has stepped into this issue.

This is laudable; government should do everything possible to ensure that this matter is resolved amicably between the Kokodiagbene community and Chevron Nigeria Limited. The Company should know that it is not fair for people to live in the midst of water and be made to watch their faces with spittle. Let the Company give fair deal to the people of Kokodiagbene community.”
