Herdsmen attack: Residents seek police post in Delta community

Following the recent kidnap of two persons by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Ubulu Unor in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta state, residents and indigenes of the community have appealed to the police authorities in Asaba to open the proposed police post in the area.
Secretary to the community, Stephen Azubuike, who spoke on Monday to journalists, said the proposed police post was among the various posts proposed to be opened following the recent upgrading of the Ogwashi Uku Police Division to an area command and wondered why the post has not been opened up till now.
He said that “we were thinking that by now the police post would have started functioning. We have already donated the needed building and it has been inspected, and we don’t know why the opening of the police post is being delayed.
“Our community security has been in the hands of few vigilante men which is not enough for the security of lives and properties of our people. It’s time we upgrade our security because of the increasing kidnap activities in the state. It’s obvious that if we have policemen stationed in our community, when such a thing happens, they would have been able to mobilize and go to the scene and arrest the suspects.”
While appealing to the police authorities to come to their aid by posting policemen to the police post, Azubuike emphasized that it will go a long way in bringing security down to the grass root, adding that “sighting new police posts in various communities will be good development, especially our community currently under siege by suspected Fulani herdsmen.”
He however, urged all well-meaning indigenes of the community to join hands in the struggle to make the take-off of the police post a reality, adding that “although, some persons may be inviting trouble to the town, but that would only be so for those who have the desire to perpetuate crime, otherwise, it’s a sign of development; police post or stations are meant for the security of the people’s lives and properties.”
