How “Hamburger,” NURTW boss was killed

Residents of Shogunle, Ladipo and the entire Oshodi area of Lagos were thrown into confusion and pandemonium on the country’s democracy day, May 29, 2017 as a result of the death of a popular leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Shogunle, Alhaji Rasak Bello, popularly known as “Hamburger,” who was allegedly killed by one Samson Agbetoye, aka Golden, one of the close lieutenants of Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, treasurer, Lagos state council of the NURTW.

A visit to House 6, Saka street, Shogunle, Lagos residence of the late Rasak Bello and the neighbourhood revealed how the stocky union leader was killed. According to an eye witness who declined to be named, explained that

Hamburger on the faithful day had went to Shogunle Police Station to report sporadic shootings by group of people at the All Progressive Congress (APC), primaries for the up-coming July 22 local government election in the state which took place at Shogunle town hall, Fasanmi Street but was attacked on his way back by a group led by “Golden” who had monitored his movements down to the police station where they opened fire on him.

Seeing that bullets could not penetrate his body after several shots as a result of potency of the charms on him, at this point, “Golden” whom perhaps known the secret of the “traditional bullet proof” charms on Rasak and in an attempt to neutralise the charm for him to be captured, removed his (Golden) cloth thereby revealed and exposed
Hamburger to a charm he was wearing under his cloth. This, according to the source, immediately rendered Hamburger vulnerable after which they got at him before he was finally killed.

Hamburger, though was said not to be a politician but a personality with a greater influence within the locality and was said to have expressed support for one Ayo Abuede for the councillorship position of the area on the excuse that Abuede had over the years stepped down for another aspirants on three to four consecutive times on the directive of the leaders in the community while the MC Oluomo group was rooting for Seyi Jaiyesinmi and were said to have planned to use that to get to Hamburger whose popularity was said to have continued to grow within the Shogunle and Oshodi areas and this was said to have continued to unsettle the MC Oluomo’s group.

The struggle and attempt to have an upper hand at the councillorship primaries of the All Progressive Congress by the group however, led to sporadic gun shut.

“Hamburger went to the police station to make report of the incident after he had expressed his worries about the inaction of the policemen that were stationed at the venue but could not stop the group or arrest the situation on the excuse that they, the Police, have not been attacked.

“If it’s not per-arranged by the MC Oluomo machinery, what is “Koko Zaria,” a notable MC Oluomo “boy” doing at the venue of the primaries? Was he an accredited observer? Was he a party official? Why was he moving up and down at the venue of the primaries? It was a pre-planned event.

“I witnessed the incident as it happened when Samson Atoyebi aka Golden shut and killed Hamburger. He was able to get to him when one of the bullets shut at him, [Hamburger]hit another man and fell and he tried to lift him that was when Golden was able to get close to him, open his own cloth and ensured the charm he was having on his chest was seen by Hamburger and immediately he became helpless and was overpowered and finally killed.

“Other MC Oluomo “boys” at the Shogunle town hall venue of the primaries along “Koko Zaria” and “Golden” were; “Anger”, Sule Nayim, Akeem, Tunde Saka, Alawoki among several others that I can’t remember their names now,” an eye witness who does not wish to be named narrated.

Late Rasak Bello who was the Zone “C” chairman of the Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos State (MOALS), an affiliate of NURTW that comprises over 30 branches across the state and the Akinrogun of Shogunle land and Akile of Ewuland in Oshodi, was said to be generous with his wealth as many people within and outside Shogunle community were said to have benefited from his large heart.

The late NURTW boss was said to have light up Saka street in Shogunle area and was currently fuelling the engine that power it to the acknowledgement of the State government.

Meanwhile, the alleged killer of the late union leader, Samson Atoyegbe, aka Golden, was said to have been sighted in Ghana on Thursday while the other suspects have also said to have fled the state as preparation for the burial of the deceased slated for Friday was in top gear at his residence in Shogunle as the time of filling this report.
