Group Commends Buhari For Appointing Galumje as Justice of Supreme Court

A civil society group, Taraba Justice Initiative (TJI) has commended President Mohammadu Buhari for appointing Justice Paul Adamu Galumje as Justice of Supreme Court.
The group also lauded the Senate for finding Justice Galumje worthy with its confirmation of his appointment to the apex court despite the antics of some people to scuttle the appointment.
Addressing a Press conference in Jalingo yesterday, President of the group, Mr Emmanuel Auta said Galumje’s appointment is purely based on merit and well deserved.
Describing the attempt to stall the appointment as sinister, Auta wondered why some people would move against the elevation of Galumje who is renowned as a thorough professional and a man of integrity and has demonstrated exemplary leadership in his previous assignments.
It will be recalled that a group led by Mr John Tobi had written a petition against the confirmation of Galumje as Justice of the Supreme court over allegations that he bribed former acting governor of Taraba state, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Danladi to pave way for his preferred candidate as Chief of Kurmi where Galumje hails from.
Insisting that the allegation is baseless, Auta described Galumje as incorruptible and eminently competent to discharge his duties as a Supreme Court Justice.
“Galumje is a man of impeccable character, integrity and track record of honesty, who is known for his firm stand on the paths of truth, justice and patriotism.
“His elevation is a plus for the judiciary, for the people of the state, the country and to humanity in general as his elevation to the apex court will help in consolidating the ongoing reform in the country’s judicial system”
Lambasting the petitioners whom he described as rabble trousers, the group stated that rather than exhibit their dexterity in mischief and blackmail aimed at pulling Galumje down, they ought to have rolled out the drums to celebrate his elevation as every right thinking people would do in the circumstances.
“We wish to state unequivocally that these repressive group represent the minute retrogressive elements in Taraba state and should be discountenanced by all right thinking people. The public should disregard their action because the good people of Taraba are happy with the appointment of Justice Galumje.
“It is laughable that rather than recoil to their shell to lick their wounds after their failed attempt to foist on the people of Kurmi a man driven by self-delusion and blinded ambition as their traditional ruler, the group has resorted to cheap blackmail against Justice Paul Galumje,” the group said.
