‘Grazing best option in ending farmer-herder clashes’

A conflict expert and director at the Institute for Peace Studies and Social Rehabilitation, University of Abuja, professor Danladi Atu has described nomadic grazing as no longer in tune with modern practice.

He recommended grazing reserves where herders could stay and feed their cattle without moving from one place to the other.

Prof Atu said the land in Nigeria cannot contain nomadic style of cattle rearing and also advised against grazing colony as proposed by the federal government adding that grazing reserve is the best option in ending farmer-herder clashes occasioned by struggle for grazing routes.

He made this known as guest speaker at the first alumni home coming of the department of Political Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
