Gov Obiano Traders’ Football Competition : Onitsha main market traders are champion

Another history has been recorded in sports in Anambra State as the finals of Governor Willie Obiano traders’ Football competition ended in a grand style.
The final competition which was played yesterday at Godwin Achebe mini Stadium, Onitsha featured trades of Onitsha Main Market and Old Motor Park Obosi.
The Match ended with in a penalty shoot out where the traders of Onitsha Main Market defeated traders of Old Motor Park, Obosi by four goals to three
Presenting the trophy to the winner, Governor Willie Obiano said his administration had injected life into sports in the state, saying sports activities were moribund before he assumed office.
The Governor noted that sports formed one of his cardinal points where youths would be meaningfully engaged to harness their hidden talents, adding that the state presently had received national and international recognition in sports as Chess players in the state would represent Nigeria in Tunisia.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Barr Uju Nwogu said the competition commenced in 2015 and 16 markets across the country competed.
She maintained that the tournament was an opportunity for all Anambra traders across the country to identify with each other as well as the state so as to tap into the huge potentials of the present administration.
The Commissioner announced that Anambra traders in Sabon -Gari Market Kano took third position, while Anambra traders from Ogbogologo Market, Asaba, took forth position.
One of the traders from Onitsha Main Market, Patrick Ikechukwu expressed satisfaction to Governor Obiano, saying such activities would always unit Anambra traders across the country.
Mr Ikechukwu observed that the tournament had exposed them to the excellent performance of the Governor to the State.
The highlights of the event were presentations of Bronze, Silver and Gold medalists to the third, second and first positions, being traders from Sabon Gari Market, Obosi and Onitsha respectively.
In addition to the presentation of trophy to the winner, the Governor announced a cash rewards N 100,000 , N 200,000 , N 500, 000 and N 1,000000 to traders from Asaba, Kano, Obosi and Onitsha respectively.
