Gov Ishaku Provides Over 100 Boreholes For Tarabans

In his effort to address the acute scarcity of water in Taraba State, the state governor, Mr. Darius Ishaku has completed the drilling of over 100 boreholes in various communities across the 16 local government areas of the state.

The state commissioner of Water Resources, Mr Emmanuel Gowon stated this yesterday in Jalingo while addressing journalists in his office.

He explained that government has also concluded arrangements for the construction of more boreholes, in line with its determination to address the water issue not just in Jalingo town but other communities as well.

“Usually, water scarcity is a major issue in the state especially during the rainy season and our people have had to put up with untold hardships in the past. That is why this administration has embarked on massive efforts, in collaboration with some donor agencies, to provide water for the people at the rural areas who are the worst hit.

“So far, over 100 boreholes have been dug and are very functional already. The phase two of the project is to commence soon and over 150 more are to be drilled across the state soon,” said.

He informed that the state government has also purchased over 7,000 meters to introduce a billing system that would ensure that consumers are billed based on consumption and not the general billing system that is currently operational.

The commissioner, however, regretted that as much as the government was determined to provide water to the people, the current economic situation in the country and non-compliance by government agencies with payment remain major challenges for the ministry.
