Gov Ishaku imposes 12hrs curfew on Wukari town

Taraba Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku has imposed a 6pm to 6am curfew on Wukari town, headquarters of Wukari Local Government Area of the State. Governor Ishaku, who spoke through a press statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bala Dan Abu and issued to newsmen, said the Curfew began from Thursday, the January 17, and to elapse until further notice. According to Ishaku, the curfew was necessitated by the invasion of Wukari town by the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi with his political thugs causing a breakdown of law and order in the town. “The decision to impose the curfew is to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the town and its environs. The Governor further urged the people of the area to be “law-abiding and to cooperate with the Law Enforcement Agencies in order to avoid further deterioration of the security situation in the town”, he said. He however, advised politicians to exercise restraint as they move around to campaign and to ensure that thugs have no role to play during campaigns and the elections. Information gathered by our correspondent revealed that APC supporters clashed with the supporters of one other political party in Wukari town when APC gubernatorial candidate was going to flag-off his Campaign in Ibi town, Ibi LGA of the State. The Chairman of Wukari Local Government Area, Mr. Adi Daniel who spoke to our Reporter on phone said one life was lost, three others sustained various degrees of injuries while about 10 vehicles were burnt beyond recognition.
