Good governance: APC chieftain charges African leaders to emulate Buhari

Patron of the Buhari Youths Organisation (BYO) ), Ambassador Nurain Mumuni has tasked African leaders to emulate the anti-graft and good governance template of President Muhammadu Buhari in changing the global negative perception about elected office holders in the continent.
The former governorship candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) in Lagos State, who gave the charge in an interview in Abuja, appealed to political leaders in Africa to join the anti-corruption campaign and the enthroning of good governance been championed by President Buhari since he assumed office in May, 2015. Amb. Mumuni said that the achievements recorded and the policy direction of the Buhari administration in the last one year indicates the emergence of a new Nigeria where accountability and good governance will be the norm. According to Mumuni, as the first year anniversary of the Buhari administration draws nearer, Nigeria is gradually reverting back to the path of honour and earning the respect of other world leaders. “Among other accomplishments in the first year of his administration, President Buhari has succeeded in saving almost N3 trillion through the Treasury Single Account (TSA), recovered billions of dollars from treasury looters and reactivated the comatose refineries for maximum output.
“The administration has regained control of territories hitherto controlled by Boko Haram insurgents, employed 500,000 teachers, provide a window for the recruitment of 10,000 police officers, renewed efforts aimed at diversifying the nation’s revenue base, purging the civil service of 24,000 ghost workers and reducing the cost of governance”, Mumuni said. He said Nigerians applaud the courage and efficiency of the Buhari administration in tackling the endemic corruption in the running of public affairs, adding that until his emergence as president, Boko Haram insurgents engaged in the killing and maiming of innocent Nigerians with the then government in power incapable of stemming the onslaught of the insurgents. “But President Buhari has not only crushed the terrorists, his administration has also regained for Nigeria all its territories hitherto controlled by Boko Haram insurgents.
“As a result of Buhari’s uncompromising determination to tackle corruption headlong, the Nigerian Customs Service has quadrupled its revenue base within the first seven months of this administration. “Buhari remains the only Nigerian leader in the recent past that has recorded giant strides towards ending corruption. Till date, a good number of persons believed to have collectively stolen billions of naira from the public treasury are facing criminal charges”, Mumuni added.
