Glo unleashes six ace comedians on Uyo

National telecoms operator and biggest corporate promoter of entertainment in Nigeria, Globacom, last weekend, unleashed six ace comedians on Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as it hosted what has unarguably become Africa’s biggest comedy show, Glo Laffta Fest, in the city.

The six humour merchants assembled by Globacom at the Emerald Event Centre to give residents of the state capital and environs undiluted comedy were Gordons, Bovi, Basketmouth, Mr. Patrick, Acapella and Dan D’Humorous.

Complementing the hilarious performances of the comedians were the Nollywood delectable pair of Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Uche Jombo who anchored the shows.

Their male counterparts, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Bishop Imeh Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos, and Richard Mofe-Damijo, added to the glamour of the evening by making guest appearances at the concert.

Guests also had a dose of good music to go with the comedy as popular female disc jockey, DJ Lambo, dished out dancehall tunes from her jukebox to their delight. Hundreds who could not get into the hall made do with watching proceedings from the large screens mounted outside.

Before the main comic acts came on stage, Globacom gave aspiring artistes an opportunity to showcase their talent. The likes of General Odey, Emmaralo, British Pastors, who travelled from their base in Aba, and MC Josy readily seized the chance to sell themselves and equally delight the audience.

Thereafter, Patrick Onyeke (better known as Mr. Patrick) who has become popular for his online skits took over and treated the audience to a series of hilarious jokes. He was followed by Acapella, whose performance many adjudged a major highlight of the evening. The comedian, who is also an On-Air-Personality and entrepreneur, had an extended time on stage and got the audience rocking uncontrollably with laughter.

Similarly, Dan D’Humorous, Gordons, Bovi and Basketmouth, who brought the show to a close, equally had spectacular outings and ensured that the audience laughed late into the night.

Globacom also used the event to celebrate various categories of its subscribers. Those who arrived early were called on stage to take pictures with the guest celebrities.

They also received Glo branded gifts. Subscribers who won dancing competitions and correctly answered questions about Glo products and services were also celebrated and presented with goody bags.

The Uyo Laffta Fest concert was another huge success for the much celebrated show that has received resounding applause in Port Harcourt, Abuja, Enugu, Owerri, Warri and Calabar where it has so far been held.

The show parades over 20 of Africa’s most resourceful comedians, including Uganda’s funniest man, Salvador, and Nigeria’s top humour merchant, Basketmouth, among others. The comedians are scheduled to perform across the country in batches covering a total of 27 cities from April to October.

The next destination of the show will take place in Ibadan on Sunday. Other cities that will host the show in the weeks ahead are Awka, Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Ajah, Asaba, Aba, Suleja, Kubwa, Ibadan, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, Ekpoma, Kaduna, Akure, Lokoja, and Anyigba.

To attend the show, Glo subscribers are expected to use up to N2,000 credit within one month and text LOL and preferred location to the short code 240; for example, “LOL Ibadan” to 240.
