In a decisive move to enhance efficiency and reduce government spending, Ghana’s President John Mahama has announced a significant reduction in the number of ministries, cutting them from 30 to 23.
This reform was implemented just two days after he took office, reflecting his commitment to streamline governance and minimize costs.

The ministries affected by this reduction include Information, Sanitation and Water Resources, National Security, Railway Development, Parliamentary Affairs, Public Enterprises, and Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
These ministries were established during the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
This cost-cutting approach stands in stark contrast to that of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, who expanded the number of ministries from 44 to 48 in 2023.
Mahama’s decision underscores his dedication to fiscal responsibility and effective governance as he seeks to optimize the operations of the Ghanaian government.
