Gay practice: Man beaten to death, lover on the run
By Eneh Nonso, Enugu
A suspected homosexual has been set ablaze in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
A competent source disclosed that the victim, Tony Ali and his gay partner, Otti Kasie Jude were caught red-handed by members of the community while they were making love on the 1st of June, 2019.
A native, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that “we have always suspected them of being homosexuals. This is because of the kind of lifestyle they live. Two of them are always together and most time they will go into the house, even at noon and bolt the door.
“So, the community vigilante group has been monitoring their movement. On that ill-fated day, being June 1, 2019, they came in as usual, but unknown to them, the villagers were monitoring their movement.
“As soon as they bolted the door, we moved closer and started hearing romantic noise from the room. At that point, we pushed through the window and saw they stark naked, with one on top of the other.”
He added that the gay partners were immediately ordered to come out, stressing that a mob descended on them and they were beaten to stupor.
A police source confirmed that they were rescued from the mob but that one of them, Tony Ali lost his life shortly after they were taken to hospital.
“They have already lost so much blood when we were alerted to the scene. We managed to take them to hospital but one of them identified as Tony died shortly after owing to loss of blood.
“The second person, Otti Kasie Jude, who is popularly known as ‘Prince’ later escaped from the hospital; we suspect that he was smuggled out of the hospital by his gay partners.
“We have already launched a manhunt for him because the crime they committed attracts several years of jail sentence,” the police source said.
Meanwhile, the development was confirmed by a senior police officer who said the matter was reported by the vigilante group.
He said the fleeing suspect would still face prosecution as homosexual remained a crime, with 14 years imprisonment awaiting any culprit.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Community’s Town Union, Chief James Odoh told journalists that Otti Kasie, who is currently on the run would pay dearly for committing sacrilege.
“You people know that Nsukka town forbids sexual relationship between the same sex. So, they committed sacrilege and Kasie will pay for his atrocity.
“Anywhere we get him, he must come to answer for what he has done because it is a desecration of the land.
“For now, we have excommunicated his entire family until they produce him,” Chief Odoh fumed.
