FUOYE VC harps on quality assurance in vasities

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof Kayode Soremekun, has said the country’s universities must set up quality assurance departments to raise the standard of education and enhance its global ranking.
Soremekun said Nigerian university certificates will continue to get unfavourable global ranking if certificate racketeering and examination malpractices were not tackled headlong.
The VC who said this on Monday during a press conference to herald the week long convocation ceremonies slated for April 27, 2017 disclosed that
18 first class students will graduate in the institution this weekend while 165 of the pioneer students and 339 of the second sets, totaling 504 of their former students will be graduated in the maiden convocation of the institution.
Prof. Soremekun, who described the rating of the institution among Nigerian universities in the 14th category, said the achievement was due
to the hard work of both academic and other staff of the institution which is just six years old since inception.
According to the V.C, the institution has seven faculties and 49 different programmes meant to ensure greater access to university education for the youths of the country, adding that the institution would create more facilities for global scholarship.
Prof. Soremekun, while outlining the week long activities for the maiden convocation, said the installation of the Chancellor of the institution, HRM, Michael Idakwo, the Attah of Igala, will hold on Saturday.
Also, four eminent Nigerians are to be honoured during the convocation including Chief Adepoju Akomolafe, Mrs. Efunjoke Coker, Dr.
Babatope Agbeyo and Chief Francis A. Daramola.
He noted that the awardees are Nigerians who have contributed their quota to the development of the country who have not been noticed by
the society for their contribution to humanity.
According to Prof. Soremekun, FUOYE will soon commence a new programme in Law so that all eligible candidate both rich and poor can benefit, noting that all the courses in the institution all in good standing with the Nigerian Universities Commission, NUC.
Soremekun, commended all past Vice Chancellors of the institution, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, Prof. Issac Asuzu, all academic and non
academic staff of the institution for their commitment in the last six years, saying FUOYE is growing, we are expanding and we want to
be the best.
He further noted that the institution now has hostels for both the male and female students of the institution.
While saying that the institution is faced with some challenges, Prof. Soremekun, added that the resources that is coming from the
Federal government are been used judiciously for the betterment of the institution.
