We’re fulfilling campaign promises – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, said his government has started fulfilling the promises made to Nigerians throughout the Country during his campaigns in 2015, despite some challenges.
He said the 18 months old All Progressives Congress led-government, has recorded a measure of success in areas of security, economy and the anti-graft war and commended the understanding patients of Nigerians.
The President disclosed this on Tuesday during a brief ceremony marking the inauguration of Edo University, Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo state which was built by Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.
According to him, “we are pleased that people understand us gradually. What we are here for and what we intend to do. During my campaign throughout this Country, we emphasised the things. Security, economy and fighting corruption. In each one of them, we have a measure of success and that was coupled by our lapse”.
He attributed the economic morass and infrastructure deficit the nation is going through to profligacy and misplacement of priorities by past governments which led to the depletion of the treasury.
Buhari, recalled how God saved the country from collapse despite the enormous resources and lamented the consequences of the mono-economy occasioned by over-dependence on the proceeds of crude oil the past governments, which the nation found itself in the past.
He, however, advocated a multi-party democratic system as the best form of transition for Nigeria given the plethora of existing interests and ethnic groups in the Country.
“We have made terrible mistakes for allowing ourselves to be cornered into a mono-economy and we are now paying dearly for our mistakes.
“The situation that we have found ourselves now is because there was no savings. There was no infrastructure…We thank God for saving us from this disaster.
“We are doing our best because we found ourselves in this great country called Nigeria. Only God can do it. We are blessed with human and material resources. We have made terrible mistakes for allowing ourselves to be cornered into a mono-economy and we are now paying dearly for our mistakes”, he said.
In his remarks, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole urged Nigerians not to relent in supporting the current administration, saying “Nigeria has a future under Buhari; there is no overnight solution to the country’s problems.’’
