Fresh Acts Music Awards (FAMA) that is created to celebrate talented young, up-and-coming and campus artistes has added a new category to the existing categories – Fresh African Act of the Year.

Speaking about this new category, FAMA Awards CEO, Biodun Caston-Dada, who also is the publisher of ACADA Magazine, said: “We are trying to give the Award a continental feel because there are countless talented young artistes who are doing well across the continental, hence our resolve to introduce this category to celebrate such talents”.

The organisers further elaborated on the project by stating that many young acts are churning out great songs and are carving a niche for themselves across various genre of music despite lack of structure, funding and necessary business models.

“It is in this stead that Fresh Acts Music Awards was born to give support to these young artistes through periodical seminars and workshops. We strongly believe many artistes don’t even know why they are doing music aside their hunger for fame. Many just wanted to ‘blow’! FAMA is set to educate these artistes via our platforms”, Caston-Dada added.

As part of the plan also, the FAMA Awards CEO hinted that there will be a monthly Rap Cypher to expose young and talented rappers/lyricists. These Cyphers will be hosted by established rap artistes and DJs.

The icing on the cake is the Awards ceremony where various fresh and upcoming artistes that have great songs and buzz within the year in review will be honoured at an elaborate awards ceremony in December.

Lined up for the winners were visits to the safari, orphanages, tourist favourite sites and a cameo appearance for the trending single, ‘Oya come make we go’ which featured Kenyan sensation, Sauti sol.

Kings of comedy, Mpho Popps and Basketmouth, are the latest celebrities to feature on reality contest, Lip Sync Battle Africa.

The duo will clash in a sizzling on-screen confrontation in front of millions of TV viewers across Africa, dissing each other in comic mockery. After lip syncing (or miming) to two songs of their choice, just one of them will lift the Lip Sync Battle trophy.

The African version of the global TV hit, Lip Sync Battle Africa is hosted by South African actress and TV presenter Pearl Thusi, alongside Nigerian superstar, D’Banj.

Lip Sync Battle Africa has featured celebrities that includes Toke Makinwa, Chigul, Funke Akindele, and Flavor amongst others.

Don’t bring religion into issues, Ali Baba warns

Comedian Ali Baba has shared his opinion on yet another burning issues as he warned individuals and government agencies not bring religion and social matters together. In a post shared on his social media platform, Ali wrote: “Stop pushing religion into issues that don’t require it to function. Quality delivery doesn’t have to be floated on rivers of spirituality. DANGOTE is a Muslim & I can say has been more of a blessing to many like me, than Christians who I am closer to. Do you know the religion of the person who made the car you are driving? Or the wrist watch you brag about? What concerns you with the religion of who constructed the road that was tarred & is serving its purpose? When you get to the bank & you are well attended to & you go back to your business, does it increase the price of bread if the person who gave your prompt service has never been to church? When you go see a good movie & leave with goose pimples…

Does it matter if the person who made the movie is a Buddhist? You needed pictures, & someone takes the most awesome pictures of you, do people ask, “Is it a Christian who took them?” What makes you think the person who makes that quality perfume that has been your trademark for over 5 years believes there is a God? I have done business with Muslims, Christians, Pagans, Rosicrucians, Krishnas,… it would surprise you that sometimes, the people who ask me for bribes are the ones who their religion would really have been least expected to. Go figure! What business is it of religion if @usainbolt comes first in a 100 meters dash when other people who did not put their best in, knelt & prayed before the race?

Haven’t our Super Eagles prayed before a match & still get flogged in the match by a team that didn’t even pray? Let me bring this home. I listened to @lalaakindoju at a church service organized for people in the entertainment industry, months back, & she hit a nerve. Because you sing songs with the name of God in it, doesn’t make you a gospel artiste, just as, your acting in movies that have religious plots doesn’t make you one. You are a Christian & work in a bank doesn’t make you a gospel banker. You just deliver service and let your religion drive you anyway. But don’t sprinkle religious dynamics all over the things you do just to make a point, when the quality is short of the standards that make others not professing religion better than yours.”
