Former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme is dead

Former Vice-President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, who was flown abroad last Sunday has died in a London Hospital. Ekwueme, 85, has been at Memfys Neurosurgery Hospital in Enugu since October 29, 2017 after he slumped in his Enugu residence and went into coma.
But the Federal Government later intervened by approving that the former VP be taken abroad for treatment.
However, doctors at the hospital advised that the octogenarian’s condition should be stabilized before he could be flown allowed abroad for more medical treatment.
Ekwueme was then flown abroad last Sunday, November 12 in an air ambulance. He ,however, died on Sunday, November 19 a week after.
A statement released by his younger brother and the traditional ruler of Oko in Anambra State, Igwe Laz Ekwueme, disclosed that the former vice president died at about 10pm in a London Clinic on Sunday.

The statement reads in part: “ The Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme.
“The sad event occurred at the London Clinic at about 10pm on Sunday, November 19, 2017.”
