Former Unical bursar calls for independent body to investigate cultism in varsity

The former bursar of the University of Calabar, Mr. Peter Agi, has called on the Minister of Education to institute an independent panel to investigate the activities of the University of Calabar given the current trend where high level cultism was being played out in the university resulting in the killing of a lecturer and other vices.

Speaking with the Daily Times in Calabar, the bursar, who claimed he was returning back to the university soon, said that it was only an independent body instituted by the minister that can unravel so many hidden things which the public does not know about.

“Only an independent body would unravel the atrocities perpetrated in the university, including cultism in which a don was recently killed. I have written to the minister in this regard. Let him investigate the university and I believe that the letter I sent to him was receiving attention. No internal people who are hell bent on removing me at all cost, legally or illegally, will be able to handle this,” he stated.

Agi explained that the university was becoming worse on daily basis: “Unical is like a military barracks now, Unical is like a place without direction, it is like a place where cultism is on the high side, it is like a place where people are not comfortable and absent of discipline.”

On issues about him and the university, Agi said unfortunately issues have arisen against him because he works in the University of Calabar, he said he had the obligation to “ensure that all income accruable to the University was well collected and accounted for and I had another responsibility of ensuring that everything that was provided for in the budget was duly paid. Unfortunately, it came to a point where approval was so much that I couldn’t afford to get money to pay; people were having different opinion about my personality.”
