FG urged to curtail access to pornography among children

A global change-making organisation, Ashoka, has urged the Federal Government to create policies that would check the access of pornographic materials on the internet by under-aged children.

Ashoka is a global network of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs identifying and supporting social entrepreneurs and change-makers with innovative solutions for youth employment in sub-Saharan Africa.

This, they say after a 2-day Learning Journey by the ASHOKA Anglophone West Africa in Lagos recently.

Speaking, Dr. Princess Olufemi-Kayode, founder of Mediacon, said, child sexual abuse are mostly committed by familiar people and not strangers.

According to her, the challenges include “silence by parents, cumbersome court processes are discouraging and inadequate misrepresentation by the media.”

She however urged parents to speak out more, government should get involved and create polices that will protect the child from access to pornography and internet molestation.

Present at the event were the Regional Director of ASHOKA Anglophone West Africa, Josephine Nzerem,  the Program Officer for Global Venture and Fellowship, Arjun Durr,  Venture and Fellowship manager of ASHOKA (WA), Ifeyinwa Egwaoje, and other Ashoka change-makers from different walks of life and corporate bodies.
