FG urged to address refugee issues

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state has urged the federal government to evolve a multi faceted approach in tackling refugees problems in the country.

Masari stated this when he received a federal commissioner for National Refugees Commission, Hajiya Sa’adiyya Umar who paid him a visit in katsina.

The governor who implored the commission not to only involve itself with the distribution of relief Materials to internally displaced persons IDPs alone, said the commission needed to conduct a survey on IDPs wishing to return to North East or have permanently returned to their home States.

According to him, a family in Kafur said they left when he was just twelve but now at over 80 was forced by activities of insurgents to return with younger generation all born in Maiduguri .

The governor however stressed the need for the commission to work with the state emergency management agency-SEMA for the success of distribution of relief materials to IDPs that are scattered in the 34 local governments in the state.

He however commended the federal government for the intervention to the IDPs ,adding that only recently SEMA had also distributed materials to IDPs which was obtained from NEMA, some corporate bodies and institutions.

Earlier, the federal commissioner in the National Refugees commission, Hajiya Sa’adiyya Umar said she was in Katsina state to flag off the distribution of relief materials in Daura.

She said Daura was selected for the flag off because it had the highest number of IDPs in local governments within the emirate.

Hajiya Sa’adiyya Umar expressed satisfaction and gratitude to the Governor for the assistance to the commission which facilitated the distribution of the relief materials.
