FG to build six modern bus terminals, backs $125m loan for Abia roads

Sa’idu Alkali, minister of transportation, says the federal executive council (FEC) has approved the construction of six modern bus terminals one in each geopolitical zone.
He said the terminals will be located in Abeokuta, Gombe, Kano, Lokoja, Onitsha and Warri.
According to Alkali, the ₦142.03 billion project is aimed at improving travel safety, reducing accidents and curbing illegal activities along highways.
“This is the first time the federal government is investing in modern bus terminals,” he said at the FEC meeting on Wednesday.
“They were sited for economic viability and security.”
The meeting ended with President Bola Tinubu commending cabinet members for their “commitment, resilience and hard work” in implementing the administration’s reforms.
The council also approved a $125 million Islamic Development Bank loan for road works in Umuahia and Aba, Abia state.
It also adopted a phased plan to refinance ₦4 trillion in electricity sector debts within four weeks.
Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, said FEC approved four memos for the sector, including ₦13 billion compensation for the Lagos–Ogun Industrial Transmission Project, funded by a $238 million Japanese development loan.
“This project will strengthen power supply along a key industrial axis, boosting local production and reducing imports,” Adelabu said.
He added that the council also approved $34 million and ₦5.2 billion to procure 14 high-capacity power transformers to replace weak and obsolete units on the national grid.
The move, he said, will enhance stability, relieve overload and improve electricity delivery to homes, businesses and industries.
