Farouq said the relief is the first step by the ministry, who would collaborate with the state emergency agency to further support the state government in other critical areas.

Responding, Gov. Fintiri thanked the federal government for the timely intervention and assured that the materials would be judiciously utilized for the victims.

Gov. Fintiri said his administration has already discussed with the North East Development Commission (NEDC) on how to partner in reconstructing affected structures in the Garkida Town.

He called on the commission to expedite action in the reconstruction process to enable those in camps return to their homes in good time for the coming planting season.

Also speaking, the Chairman of commission, Gen. Paul Tarfa (rtd), who is from Garkida, on behalf of the people, lauded the federal government for donating the relief materials.

Tarfa also commented Gov. Fintiri for the concern shown to the people of Garkida by visiting immediately after the attack to sympathize with the victims and assess the damage done.

It would be recalled that the February 21 attack on Garkida led to the death of two soldiers, the looting, burning of many houses and places of worship by the Boko Haram terrorists.
