FG, Nasarawa State sign MoU on completion of 20MW dam project


The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nasarawa State government for the takeover and completion of the Farinruwa Dam project by the Ministry of Water Resources.

Farinruwa Dam, located at Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has the capacity to generate 20 Megawatts of electricity and generate millions of cubic water to about twenty communities on the stage.

The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, signed on behalf of the Federal Government while governor Tanko Al-Makura signed on behalf of the State.

Governor Al-Makura expressed his appreciation to the federal government for taking over the project in order to complete it adding that the the stage government lacks the financial requirement to complete the projects hence the need for the Federal Government to intervene.

Al-Makura said that the project, when completed would add to the quality of life of the people of the state.

“This agreement will go a long way in improving the living standard of the people as it will help agriculture to grow,” he said.

While noting that the takeover of the project by the federal government is an indication of its resolve to execute projects that will impact the life of ordinary Nigerians, the governor added that by agreeing to complete the project the FG’s lifted a heavy burden from off the states’ shoulders.

He assured that the state will be transparent in the profit sharing arrangement from doing business with the federal government.

In his address, after the signing ceremony, the Minister assured that the federal government will expedite action on the project.

It will be recalled that the Farinruwa dam was abandoned by the Nasarawa state government due to paucity of funds to complete the project.

The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman, explained that the FG’s decision to takeover and complete the dam project is borne out of its commitment to complete all abandoned water projects in the country was paramount to the overall goal of improving access to potable water in the country.

Adamu, who reeled out his achievement at the opening ceremony of the maiden edition of Nigerian Media Water Week, said that the ministry was working in line with the National Water Resources Master Plan, which targets deriving optimum benefits for Nigerians.
