FG directs remedial works on 5 road washout locations
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) has ordered for immediate remedial works on all road washout locations throughout the country to allow for the free flow of traffic.
Director of Information in the ministry, Theodore Ogaziechi, in a statement said that the attention of the government has been drawn to embankment and road washouts at five different locations across the country.
Ogaziechi, who revealed that the remedial works would commence on Sunday, explained that the washout is a seasonal occurrence arising from heavy rainfall around this period of the year because of global warming.
The embankment washouts the ministry stated include, the kilometre 7+250 from Bida, along the Lambata-Lapai-Bida Road project recently awarded to Messrs CGC Nig. Plc, immediately after the Nigerian Cereal Institute in Niger state.
“The contractor has commenced immediate mobilization to site on the directive of the ministry and will commence emergency reinstatement work on August 26, to enable the free flow of traffic.
Also in Niger state is the Armco Pipe collapse at kilometre 16 along the Bida –Minna Road in Niger state.
“The Niger state government has commissioned a federal contractor, Messrs Triacta Nigeria Plc on that corridor to restore the anomaly for safe passage.
“Other washouts are at Kwaita Bridge, along the Abuja – Lokoja carriage way where the subsisting contractor, Reynolds Construction Company has been directed to commence immediate remedial works.
“Embankment washout at Bayo council area on the road linking Gombe – Biu in Borno state where FIK Construction Company has been directed to move in and commence palliative measures and finally the embankment washout at Jabbi-Lamba Village, along the Yola – Mubi Road before Girei Local Government Area,” Ogaziechi added.
He said that the minister has appealed to motorists and other road users to be cautious on the mentioned locations and adhere strictly to safety instructions of corps marshals who have been drafted by the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure traffic control and possible redirection of traffic where necessary.
The ministry enjoined all Nigerians to report any such occurrence on all federal highways in order to avoid loss of human lives and properties.
