Fadipe’s death: Suspect, DPP’s ill health stalls trial

The on-going trial of the suspected killer of human rights lawyer, Kunle Fadipe, before Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of a Lagos High court, could not go on as scheduled due to ill health of the defendant, Oluwaseun Oladapo.

Same was the case with the lead Prosecutor, the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution, Mrs. Idowu Alakija.

Assistant State Counsel, Mr Babajide Boye informed the court of the development.

Oladapo is standing trial for killing Fadipe on July 4, 2014, at No 1, Harmony Estate, Ifako-Ijaiye, Iju, Lagos.

At the hearing on Thursday, Oladapo was absent in court on Thursday holding to the fact that he had to be in the hospital to undergo a scheduled surgery on his leg.

According to a warder from the Ikoyi Prison, where he was being held, Oladapo was on admission at the Igbobi General Hospital for a bullet surgery because, “he is seriously experiencing pain on his leg.”

However, the defence counsel, Mr. Worer Obuagbaka was surprised at his client’s absence in court. He told the court that though he was informed by the defendant of going for an operation but he was not informed it would come so soon.

Obuagbaka urged the presiding judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Ikeja High court, Lagos to grant a two-month adjournment period to allow his client recuperate.

The presiding judge then adjourned the matter.

“In view of the circumstance of the defendant being on admission in the hospital, the case is hereby adjourned to May 31, 2016.
