Jos base marketing communication expert appoints to head ECOWAS drug unit advocacy

A Jos based marketing communication consultant and public affairs strategist, Haroun Harry Audu has been selected into a pool of Resource Persons for the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Commission Headquarters.

According to a statement signed by Daniel Akwasi Amankwaah, Principal Program Officer Law Enforcement Drug and Project Coordinator and made available to Daily Times in Jos, said that Audu has been appointed into the role of Communications Expert, to oversee and execute the Communication and Visibility Plan of a European Union fully-funded project in support to ECOWAS Drug Unit Advocacy, Monitoring and Coordination Capacities.

Amankwaah also stressed that the operational location of the project is in all ECOWAS Member States and Mauritania, and is consistent with the ECOWAS Regional Action Plan noting that the first phase of this European Union-funded project will be concluded in November 2018, subject to renewal.

“The project is to contribute to a reduction of drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking and related organized crime in West Africa by supporting the implementation of the Regional Action Plan that has been developed by ECOWAS to address these issues.

The coordinator also said the objectives is to gradually establish a sustained capacity within ECOWAS Commission responsible for the overall coordination and monitoring of regional initiatives undertaken in the area of illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse and related organized crime problems.

Other objectives are to also empower ECOWAS Member States to implement selected national components of ECOWAS Regional Action Plan to contribute to an effective coordinated regional response to drug abuse and trafficking and related organized crime problems.

As its Communications expert he is to build awareness about the reality of drug trafficking, associated organized crime and drug abuse and its consequences on health and security in West Africa; raise awareness of the objectives pursued by ECOWAS, the EU and UNODC in contributing to addressing these threats and the expected outcomes of the project.

The statement also added that this assignment is under the direct purview and administrative oversight of the ECOWAS Commission Office of the Principal Program Officer/Project Coordinator, Law Enforcement (Drug).
