Excitement as witchcraft conference begin in UNN

After weeks of controversy and debates in the social media, the scheduled 2-day international academic interrogation on witchcraft has taken off, drawing excitement to its proponents and aghast for others who kicked against it.

The conference which is being hosted at the Nsukka Main Campus of the University of Nigeria however witnessed two adjustments, renaming of the Conference and change of venue.

The conference was originally titled “International and Interdisciplinary Conference on Witchcraft” but due to outcry especially by Christian bodies, it was changed to its new name. However, the original idea of the conference which was to interrogate the meaning, factors and practices, to dimensions of human behavior. The venue was also changed from the Energy Centre to Princess Alexandria Hall of the university.

According to the Chief Host of the conference, Prof. Egodi Uchendu, in her opening speech, a major casualty of the Conference was the absence of the keynote speech to have been given by Prof. David Kerr, former Vice Chancellor of Benue State University.

He was said to have withdrawn from the conference at the last minute following needless controversy that followed the topics fuelled by mainly by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
