Ex-AMAC chairmen pledge commitment to council

Past Chairmen of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory have stated their commitment to help move the council forward.

They gave their commitment during an interactive forum with the Chairman of AMAC, Alhaji Abullahi Candido, to address some challenges in the Council, in Abuja on Monday‎.
A Past Chairman, Mrs. Vivian Anazodo, who spoke on the sidelines of the occasion, said

they had a fruitful discussion and charted a way forward for the council.
It was a good meeting; I felt at home, this is the peoples’ chairman, bringing all the chairmen together for the first time. It was very fruitful.

We agreed that never again that municipal area council will use force to collect any revenue; it must be for the people and by the people in a peaceful way.

We also agreed that we will meet two times in a year so we can rub minds on how to move this council forward because all we want is to make sure we support the chairman to move this council forward. By God’s grace all our desires, all or wishes will be granted.

Also speaking, Mr. Kyauta Yepwi, the First Executive Chairman of the Council, said they had a good discussion, adding that it was the first time former chairmen were meeting.
It was a happy reunion. We talked about challenges in the past, challenges in the present and even challenges in the future.

In his response, Candido said he was happy to receive the past chairmen, adding that it would be a continuous thing towards making the council better in terms of service delivery.
I am just full of appreciation that you are seeing the first elected chairman of this area council and other successive chairmen that served before us coming to share with us our pains and challenges and wishing us well and wishing to support this government

I think it is something that is commendable and they are appreciated.Challenges are enormous, we have challenge of how to offer service to the people, we cannot offer this service if the resources are not there.

So I cannot do it alone that is why we had to bring the former chairmen here.
You can see for yourself, they have come to share their experience while in office and challenges they also passed through and how we can also overcome the current challenges and that is what we exactly what we did and we are happy for it. Candido gave his assurances that the issue if the tenement rate would be resolved and it would be in the interest of the public.

Dr. Zaphaniah Jisalo, Chairman, House Committee on FCT Area and Auxiliary Matters, said various challenges affecting the council were discussed during the course of the interactive session.Jisalo who was also a former AMAC chairman, gave his assurances that all the issues deliberated would be tabled before the National Assembly.
