Equatorial Guinea calls for ACCI support
The Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea to Nigeria Job Obiang Esono Mbengono has called on the President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye for support with a view to partnering with the Chamber to assist his country in charting a course aimed at increasing trade relations between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
Mbengono who made this call during a meeting with the ACCI boss in his office on Tuesday in Abuja recalled that as discussed at the last Equatorial Guinea National Day celebration, the volume of trade between both countries had been very low, but given the potentials of Nigeria and the experience of its private sector, a lot can still be achieved in the near future.
“Nigeria is a giant in the region. We know about the potentials of Nigeria. The businesses that we have are more from European and American countries, but we will like to see African countries too and there is no better country to invest than Nigeria. I have witnessed how aggressive the Nigerian private business sector is and I want to attract that to Equatorial Guinea”
Responding to the Equitorial Guinea Ambassador, Ejinkeonye stated that trade facilitation is basically the Chamber’s priority and most times policy advocacy which has reflected in so many government policies.
He stated that the focus of the Chamber is on growing trade relations within Nations in the African continent, adding that 85 per cent of businesses in Africa are internationally focused while 15 per cent are being done within the continent.
He noted that the Chamber will assist the Embassy in identifying sectors of investment interest amongst its members with possible B2B meetings between members of ACCI and the Equatorial Guinea business community.
