End varsities, polytechnics dichotomy – Rector

The Federal Polytechnic, Bida, on Tuesday, appealed to Federal Government to end the dichotomy between Degrees and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates in the country, saying that emphasis should be placed on skills and not certificates.

The Rector, Dr. Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi made this appeal while briefing journalists on the activities of the forth coming convocation of the institution.

According to him, “the dichotomy between graduates from the universities and polytechnics is unnecessary. I am sure that this would soon dawn on us in Nigeria especially with the high unemployment level we have in this country.

“The issue we are talking about is not about cramming but the ability to perform what have been taught.”

Dzukogi said the discrimination between universities and polytechnics graduates is unnecessary especially in the light of the unemployment level in the country.

He said that the polytechnic graduates are those who move the economy as they surpasses the university graduates in performance and skills.

Dzukogi appealed to government and all employers of labour to remove the difference and test every applicant according to the course they read.
