Election Logjam: Africa Leaders To Decides Jammeh’s Fate, Saturday.

There are indications that African leaders will on Saturday take a final decision on the fate of President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia as the political impasse that has trailed recent election in that country persists.
Following the last Presidential election results in which opposition candidate, Adama Barrow defeated incumbent President Yaya Jammeh of Gambia, several efforts by African leaders to prevail on the incumbent to accept the results has proved abort.
President Muhammadu Buhari and other West African leaders were in Banjul to convince Gambian Leader to step down for the winner of the presidential election who is expected to be sworn in on the 19th of January, 2017.
But the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, while speaking to journalists on Friday, revealed that African leaders will use the inauguration of the newly elected President of Ghana, on Saturday to take decision on how best to resolve the impasse.
Shehu disclosed that the issue will be tabled at the meeting of the African leaders which will hold in Accra, Ghana after the inauguration of the country’s President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Shehu said the Saturday’s meeting was critical to the resolution of the crisis in the country, as President Jammeh is expected to attend the inauguration.
He said, “President Buhari and other African leaders will on Saturday be attending the inauguration of Nana Akufo-Addo as the President of Ghana.
“Another important thing is that shortly after the inauguration, the leaders will be meeting on the crisis in The Gambia.
“A major decision on the impasse is expected to be taken at that all-important meeting.
“President Buhari is the Chief Mediator is the crisis and he is committed to ensuring that the logjam is resolved.”
