Ekweremadu saga: IPOB goofed, say Anambra PDP chair

Reactions have continued to trail the recent attack on the former Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremmadu, by the angry people of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Senator Ekweremmadu, representing the Enugu West Senatorial district was attacked in Germany, while on official visit to deliver a lecture.
Reacting to the attack, the Anambra State Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sir Ndubisi Nwobu, described their action as unruly, and was not a reflection of Igbos.
Nwobu, who described Ekweremmadu as one person who championed the course of Igbos as the Deputy Senate President, said the action was a slap on the identity of the Igbos.
While addressing newsmen in his office in Awka, Nwobu noted that Igbos on general were not happy with the present administration due to high level of marginalisation and negligence.
His words: “Ekweremadu has on several occasions used his position as a Senator and Senate President, to hammer on the need to ensure that Igbos interests are protected in Nigeria.
“Igbos are been marginalised and emasculated. We have been denied necessary infrastructure and we are giving third rate appointments. We are not considered in any job vacancy.
“The only time they remember Igbos is when it comes to educational advantages and disadvantages’ states, just to deny our children from gaining admission into universities.
“Igbos are the only race that believe in this project called Nigeria. This is why they invest in any state, South East, South South and Northern states.
“So for Nigeria to treat Igbos this way is what every right thinking man should be angry at. But to lay down your anger on a person who champions your course is unfair.”
“Indeed for them to claim they are IPOB, that singular action has reduced the level of support and sympathy IPOB had in the South East, ” Nwobu stated.
The State PDP Chairman warned Nigerian youths to refrain from any action that would ignite crises in violence in the country.
He, however, beckoned on the former Deputy Senate President to temper justice with mercy and continue in his course, for the general interest of Igbos.
Also speaking, the wife of the former Senate President, Senator Margery Chuba-Okadigbo, said “the attack on the former Deputy President of the Senate is condemnable. I condemn that action in its totality”.
