Ekiti to upgrade staff development institute

In a bid to ensure professionalism and better performance in the Public Service of Ekiti State, the State government has disclosed
plans to upgrade the Staff Development Centre to Public Service Institute.
The State Head of Service, Dr Olugbenga Faseluka who gave the hint during the second convocation ceremony of the Centre in Ado Ekiti stated that training was key to a better and more professional public service.
Dr. Faseluka who showered encomium on the State Governor, Chief Ayo Fayose for relocating the centre to its present site during his first tenure and equipping it with ICT equipment announced at the ceremony that Fayose had approved the advancement of officers in the secretarial cadre from their previous cadre bar to a more advanced level.
He stressed that the commitment of Governor Fayose to transforming the State Public Service and his “support towards upgrading the centre to public service institute soon” are commendable.
“There is no gain-saying the fact that the Centre has contributed tremendously to the manpower need in the secretarial cadres of Public Service and private/ corporate sector of Ekiti State and sister States. I congratulate the entire staff and students for maintaining the quality and standard the centre is known for”, he said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of Establishments and Training, Mr. Olusesan Alabi said the Staff Development Centre was set up purposely to build human capacity and ensure career progression of workers in the service of Ekiti State Government.
Alabi said the public service must be exposed to regular training for effective service delivery.
In her speech, the Principal of the Centre, Mrs Mercy Ipinmoroti said the Centre had consistently pursued excellence and had performed creditably in the last National Secretariat examination with 97% overall aggregate.
Ipinmoroti said the school hosted the contingent of the DAWN commission and Department for International Development (DFID) who came on an assessment of the place of the State Public Service Training Institute; making a plea for a speedy upgrade of the Centreto an Institute.
