Ekiti Inaugurates Saving-One-Million-Lives Programme for Result Implementation Committees

Ekiti State Government has inaugurated two standing committees to accelerate the implementation of the Saving-One-Million-Lives Programme for Result (SOML P for R) in Ado-Ekiti.
The SOML P for R intervention programme initiated by the Federal Government in Partnership with State Governments is part of efforts at improving maternal and child health.
Speaking during the official inauguration of the committees, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olurotimi Ojo reiterated the commitment of the Fayose led administration to the welfare of the people stressing that the administration placed premium on well-been of the people and would therefore continue to partner with necessary
bodies without prejudice to political and religious inclinations in order to deliver the dividends of democracy and provide adequate quality health care services to the people in the State.
Dr. Ojo urged members of the committees to live up to their responsibilities and make every effort at ensuring the success of the programme.
The State Project Manager of the SOML P for R, Dr. Funmilayo Ibikunle had earlier explained that the intervention programme was designed to help tackle some health challenges facing mothers and children.
According to Ibikunle, SOML P for R was based on six pillars of maternal, newborn and child health, childhood essentials medicines and increasing treatment of important childhood diseases, improving child nutrition, immunization and malaria control as well as elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV.
The 23 member State Steering Committee is headed by the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Olurotimi Ojo with some principal officers in the State Health Sector, representatives of International Donor agencies and Civil Society Organizations as members while the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ayotunde Omole is the chairman of the 17member Technical Consultative Group.
