Ekere may loss out to Gov Emmanuel in A’ Ibom – APC chieftain

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Eniefiok Ekefere, weekend gave reasons why the party governorship candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere may loss to the incumbent Governor Udom Emmanuel, in the forthcoming governorship election in the Akwa Ibom. Ekefere who is a caucus member of the APC in Akwa Ibom made the prediction during a media interaction with journalists at his residence recently. He said the relative peace provided by Governor Udom Emmmanuel administration in the past three and half years would guarantee his second term victory adding that the people would not lose sight of it in deciding who governs them. He recalled that the period of insecurity in the state when Sen Godswill Akpabio was governor and the current governorship candidate of the APC, Obong Nsima Ekere was his deputy where people were being killed and kidnapped even in churches. He said they made life unbearable and uncomfortable which eventually retarded development and progress of Akwa Ibom people. According to Ekefere, “I am a political activist and caucus member of the APC, but for the forth coming governorship election in the state I support Governor Udom Emmanuel’s re-election because my party threw up the wrong candidate. “I am still in APC. I am not with Udom as a person but for the public interest of my state. Interest comes first, party politics comes next. I am a free citizen and the constitution provides for freedom of assembly and association. “One of the basic needs of the people of the state is security. When the present politicians seeking elective positions in the state were in power under the PDP there were cases of kidnappings and assassinations. “The same people who ensured that there was no peace in Akwa Ibom state have now moved to govern the state. Before Udom administration the churches were usually empty because of serious insecurity.” “Udom has given us nothing but peace. All the characters in my party APC were part and parcel of the days of anarchy in Akwa Ibom state. “In the past people don’t go to church in the state because of cases of kidnappings. Major General Edet Akpan was kidnapped in the church. Paul Inyang, South South leader of the PDP was also kidnapped in the church and many more. “Prosperity without peace is no prosperity. Our people now move freely and sleep in their homes with their eyes closed. You don’t hear so much of killings, kidnappings and threat to lives.
