Edo Govt Tasks Civil Servants On Efficient Service Delivery

In Its determination to continuously build the capacity of Edo State civil servants for effective and efficient service delivery, the state government has organised a two-day workshop for all categories of staff in the Government House, Benin.
The training programme with the theme, “Work Ethics Towards Effective Service Delivery”, had Jonathan Nikori ,a lecturer with the University of Benin and Thomas Esiramen Esq, retired Permanent Secretary, Edo State civil service as facilitators who stressed the need for change of attitude, discipline and adherence to the civil service rules and regulations.
Nikori in his lecture told the participants to try to understand their work environment and the goal or target of their employer, noting that understanding the goal of public administration is key to effective service delivery.
Barr Esiramen on his part, reminded the participants of the civil service rules, emphasizing the characteristics of a civil servant which include discipline, non partisanship, loyalty, punctuality among other qualities, adding that one of the universally acceptable characteristics of any organisation is the ability to maintain a strict code of ethics, values and norms. They both urged self appraisal of the civil servants to be able to drive the process of change and innovative ideas of the present administration for effective service delivery in the implementation of government policies.
Earlier in an address, the Head of Service, Mrs Gladys Idahor said the staff training is a continuous one that would be extended to all the ministries and parastatals in the state . She urged the participants to learn and bring their experiences to bear on the performance of their duties.
“We observed that the capacity of Workers in the state service is too low, hence the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki directed that such training programme be put in place “,she explained.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Barr Steve Omorodion who commended the state government for the capacity building also explained that government decided to organize the programme to oil the wheels of Edo state civil service for effective and efficient service delivery in the state.
Some of the participants who spoke on the programme including Duke Oshodi and Mrs Uwaifo Vivian commended Edo state government for the initiative, saying that it will motivate them to work harder.
