Ebonyi CDHR plans anti-corruption rally

The Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Ebonyi State branch, on Wednesday, announced that the group had concluded plans to organise a state-wide rally in support of anti-corruption crusade of the Federal Government.

It made this known when the during a courtesy call on the Acting General Manager of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Unity F.M. Radio, Abakaliki, Mr. Gregory Odiakosa.

Then, the Chairman, Care-taker Committee of CDHR Ebonyi, Comrade Kenneth Ofoma, said that the rally had become necessary as a way of encouraging President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war, which, he said had become a national issue.

He said that the traditional role of the Committee, which had its motto as “Do not mourn, mobilise”,  was championing the cause of democracy and rule of law in Nigeria.

Ofoma said that the group was poised to fight for the social, economic, cultural and human rights of the people as enshrined in Chapter IV of the 1999 Constitution.

The National Internal Auditor of CDHR, Comrade David Okoro, said the group was on the visit to renew the partnership with the radio station, and to solicit the establishment of anti-corruption unit in the station.

He called for institutionalisation of anti-corruption war in Nigeria, by making anti-graft agencies truly independent of all arms of government, except the Constitution.

He said that corruption had destroyed Nigeria, which was why there was a need for everybody to become an anti-corruption vanguard.

In a remark, Odiakosa stated that the station was ready to partner well-meaning organisations like CDHR, and promised to establish anti-corruption unit in the station.

He said his station was ready for the anti-corruption rally, and expressed optimism that the various policies of the Federal Government, including the anti-corruption crusade, would soon begin to yield bountiful dividends.
